5000 Day's of Web

“The web is us, all screens look into one, No bits live outside the web, to share is to gain, Let one read it”
“It’s Amazing and we’re not amazed” (Kevin Kelly). I couldn’t agree with this statement more. The web is the world’s biggest machine, and the most reliable with no downtime as Kevin said and we just take it for granted. To some of us its second nature like breathing, to others its new and we are still learning how to use it, but we better learn fast because its growing and more and more businesses and people are relying on it. Some of the biggest things that stuck out to me in this video were : 100 billion clicks per day, 55 trillion links between web pages in the world, 1 billion PC chips on the internet, 2 million emails per second, 1 million IM messages per second, and 65 billion phone calls per year. That to me is truly amazing how much we use the web and what we use it for. Kevin said it best the web is like the Blackhole sucking more and more in everyday. The last thing that really grabbed my attention and is kind of scary to think about is the web is equal to one human brain, 30 years from now the web will equal 30 billion human brains, and in 2040 the web will exceed humanity in processing power! If that doesn’t give you something to ponder on I don’t know what will….

  1. “It’s Amazing and we’re not amazed” (Kevin Kelly) I think that this is a very good part of Kevin's video to point out. There are so many amazing things going on, not only in the cloud and with technology, but even amazing discoveries outside technology that people don't seem to give much credit to. The human race has been around for hundreds of thousands of years, just in the last 100 years we've made more technological progress then in the last 199,900 years. Yet we still go about our daily lives as if everything is normal.

  2. Don't you wonder if the web equals on human brain now in 30 years it will be equal to 30 billion human brains, what will happen to mankind? I do. Have you ever seen the movie "Maximum Overdrive" it is from 1986 and directed by Stephen King. It is about all the machines in the world taking control and killing all the humans. Could this happen? Could the web take over and create mass destruction if we let it become smarter than the human race? I'm curious, I'm sure I won't be alive at that point if it was to happen but it is still scary.
I am also struck by this comment, “It’s Amazing and we’re not amazed” (Kevin Kelly) It signifies how much and how fast we have been subjected to change and advancement in technology. As though we come to expect this kind of change, what will it take to amaze us? Flying cars would do it I think.
